An evening at Changi

Alas, I have complete my assignment (study ... not work) after ploughing through it for a whole day on a Sunday ... sigh. Bing suggested we go out for a nice dinner and we instantly picked on the Hot Stone Grill we saw on the internet a few days back. Weisin joined us for the dinner and even drove us, really nice of him.

I ordered the seafood combo, fish with prawns. They were fresh, thats good enough for me at S$9.80.

Bing and Weisin both had the steak, medium raw or well done is all up to you at S$10.80. The salad and whip potatoe by the side were just a good.

After dinner, we took a walk around Changi Village, the zhi char there was very crowded, looks like its popular and value for money. It was nothing far from a quiet place, kids running around and riding toy bikes, people going to the Changi Beach Park for a stroll after dinner. Weisin then drove us to Upper Changi North Road to a diner called the Bark Cafe for a drink.

The place is right beside the tall fence line of Changi Prison. dont worry, no one's gonna escape anymore ever since MS. I had a mug of heiniken, while they had lemon tea and strawberry frizz. We also ordered a top shell dish to go along with our drinks, yummy.

好粥到火鍋館

Its Friday! Finally the last day of a working has arrived. I am rather happy as it was quite a rough week and decided call upon the usual guys for dinner; Chiplee, Peiling, Teckyau, Seow Keong, Peisi, Soon Meng and Lynn.

From the internet, Bing found this steamboat using porridge as soup base.

Blk 712 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 6 #03-4056 Singapore 560712
Time: 1400 - 2200
Telephone: 64586552

With the dining area located at a balcony on the 3rd floor, it allows fresh and cool air, making the eating experience a little better with the steaming hot pot.

Peiling's tummy is really big now, looks like the baby boy will soon be here. Haha... I am glad and definately am looking forward to see the "little chip". Well, Teckyau prefers to name the baby boy as George Junior.

At S$13.90 per pax, buffet is served and service is generous and polite.

We had nice meal and ended off with beer at Blooie's, Railway Mall. Wow... its a great way to end the week.

Sounds of truck horn at midnight

Its almost midnight, I am trying finish up what I want to complete today for my assignment and then sounds of horn started becoming obvious. I walked to my window and stuck out my head, clear blast of truck horns can be heard coming from Woodlands Road. The truck drivers must be sounding their disgrunt and unhappiness about the jam at Checkpoint. More amazingly was that their queue to Checkpoint has lined up all the way to Woodlands Road near my house, that must be hell lot of trucks... I sometime wonder, if these trucks stopped delivering fresh food supplies to us, will we still have things to eat other than can food? Hmm... but come to think of it, these drivers are also quite poor thing, its midnight and they still can't get home.

Claypot Rice @ Outram Food Centre

It was windy and cooling this evening that led us to decide on a hot steamy claypot rice for dinner. We went to the make shift food centre just beside the Outram MRT and settled for the famous claypot rice by the 2 sisters.

Costing $8 and 15mins wait, we shared and was really filling. Lucky the weather was good, else it will be a sweaty dinner with the hot claypot right infront of you.

BBQ gathering with colleagues

2 weeks back, we decided during lunch that we should have a bbq gathering with all the close colleagues from various departments as we have all been busy and have catch up lately. Swiftly and efficiently, our dudes from IT (Information Technology) stepped up and organised this dinner event last night.

Held at East Coast Park Pit D.47, food was served to happy and eager people.

Here's some of our friends from other departments ... you have procurement, design, adminstration, technology, quality, projects ... and the list goes on.

These 2 were busily cooking the food, I need to stop them and posed for me... haha...

Our lady from quality here really having a good doing all the bbq-ing and making sure the sausages and wings are not burnt.

Department Lunch & Farewell

Today marked the final day for the Road Show at the 2 C.K. Tang outlets, Orchard and Vivocity, as well as a few days from some colleagues whom had resigned or transferred. As such, our Sales GM decided to treat everyone to a sumptous lunch to show his appreciation and thanks for all the work done.

Lunch was held at Chu Kee Cuisine, at Blk 4 Queens Road next to St Magaret's School. Food is good, and I liked the asam fish and stewed beef most. Damaged to the wallet, I have no idea as the Sales GM is treating... haha.

Some of us posing for the photo shoot while waiting the food to arrive.

And here's everyone. I felt alittle sad as I was one of the guys who got transferred. Its been coming to 4 years working in this department, seeing people come and go, seeing the ups and downs. I think I have learnt and experienced alot from all these and were valuable knowledge and skills.

After a long and chatty lunch with jokes to lighten the mood, we finally left with a heavy heart, a feeling that we'll missed the moments before and team spirit that was once ever so strong.

Weisin Birthday Dinner @ Modesto, Vivo

Last night was Mr Phoong's birthday dinner celebration. Our friend Belinda has been really sweet, getting all of us together. The little party was held at Modestos in Vivo City.

The restaurant is pretty nice with friendly waiters. There wasn't much of a crowd, thus the attention was mainly directed to us since we were the biggest group, or rather making the most noise...

With a long dining table, we had 4 20" pizzas, 5 pastas and 4 starters... it was really enough to feed all of us.

And here's the birthday boy, beaming ear to ear, cutting the all double power chocolate cake with more choco in the between.

Before ending the day, Weisin treated all of us to Hagen Daz ice-cream. I must say, we were already quite full, Bing and me shared the Pink Beauty which was simply rich with milk shake and top with small ice-cream balls... wow... its a heavy dinner.

Dinner full of crabs!

Having a drink with great food is good, doing the same with friends that understand you is simply an enjoyment.

After a week of evening class and heavy work, I have decided that I needed a break from all these and most of all, a little reward before a brand new week starts. The reward, some affordable fine wine and dine comes in a form of beer and crabs to me. I decided Melben at Ang Mo Kio Ave 3 will be just the perfect place for today's little reward.

The waitress advised that we will need to wait for 1 to 1.5 hour before our food is served. And any amendment to the order will take anther 1 hour... but luckily for us, the food was served just slightly below an hour.

Looking around, the whole coffeeshop seemed to just rely on this Zhi Char to survive.

Our 1st dish, fried 'Dang Hoon" ... it was a small plate. We have no problem clearing it within 5 minutes.... haha... we were hungry liao.

Pork Ribs in Lotus Leaf. Looks kind of dark, all the sauce, I dont think you can see the ribs clearly as it seemed to have camouflaged into the leaf...

Friend Bean Curd... really nice when you dipped it into the sweet sauce and eat while its still piping hot with smoke, careful... the inside is really soft and hot!

Crab in Creamy Butter Sauce. I ordered all crabs to be female and all of them had rich roes... there goes chlorestoral level... haha. The sauce is really nice, you can dipped the fried buns and eat just like that.

The all famous and reknowned Claypot Crab Beehoon. Weixian has been talking about it last Friday and today, she tasted and confirmed that it was worth her time coming down here.

The whole meal cost S$210, the 2 crab dishes alone account for S$160. Well, we had 4 crabs in total and they arent small.

Meihua's Birthday Lunch

Today, we celebrated Meihua's Birthday at the Mint Cafe. It was really a challenge to get to the place, not because it was hidden in some corner but the human and vehicle traffic were both all time high. With the IT Show and SMU Open House, people and cars were everywhere. Enough said of people and cars, presenting the happy birthday gal below.

Bing was hungry even before we reached the cafe. The first thing she would look at was the menu.
With the orders taken, we posed for a few shots to kill time while waiting for the food.
And though I did not mentioned it during lunch, I must say now that Peifen wore a really nice turquoise colour dress.

I had the Grilled Dory in Red Chilli. It was not spicy at all, the red sauce was tomato chunks. It was nice and I would recommend it. Furthermore, it was a set meal that comes with soup of the day, soft drink or hot drink and a dessert.

The Aglio Oglio with baby clams. Today, they are out of clams and replaced it with mushrooms. I am not sure of the taste but it was certainly a big change from non-vege to vege status.

Tom Yam Seafood Soup with Glass Noodles. This should be a standard dish, Bing ate it with no complains nor compliments.

After all the food, drinks and dessert, we finally rendered the service of the waitress to help us take a group photo. This was the waitress second go at the camera as the first was ... rather "half-Matt" skill.

Jurong Bird Park

Its been a really long time since we last visited the Jurong Bird Park (JBP for short). Seow Keong managed to get the corporate visiting pass from his company and thus got us in for free. The whole look of JBP changed since the last time I was there; smoke screen enhanced the look of the walk ways with new decos giving the feel one up.

We managed to reached the JBP in time to watch Bird & Buddies show and guess what, Xue Yan our friend was there to do the show. She was really good, well spoken and great with the stage performance... I wonder if she had any fans... haha.

Behind us was the flamingo lake... all pinkish and red.

The most interesting attraction we find is the Lories, all cute and colourful, hungry and always wanting the sweet stuffs in the cup that we buy for $2 to feed them.

The Lories, simply fly onto us and started to eat from the cup, they are not afraid of people.

We had a wonderful time at JBP, you guys should go visit it if you haven't for quite sometime because things have changed. One more thing, the birds (performing the show) retires at around 40 years old while they can live till 50+ years old.
